I make no apologies for my crazy love of fall. It is my favorite season.. As a young girl growing up in East Tennessee, I couldn’t wait for fall. To me, it meant the Billie Nipper Art Show, rushing home from school on Fridays smelling chili in the crock pot, and Grandmother Rann’s ghost stories.
But I admit, I don’t even “glamp.” How can I write an authentic fall guide? I have two teenage daughters. The best I could do is get you to Opry Mills and Starbuck’s for a Pumpkin Spice latte!
FALL FUN WITH TWO OUTDOOR DUDES!
So who better to interview than two REAL OUTDOOR GUYS! I interviewed two of our most outdoor-lovin’ guys at Milosi to see what they do in the fall. So what did I learn? Well, let’s just say I’m ready to bedazzle my tent and hit the great outdoors!!
“Chaz and Todd’s Excellent Adventures”.
Chaz Smithson- Team Leader Todd Marasi- CRM Nashville
1. CAMPING AT BLEDSOE CREEK STATE PARK
From Chaz: “Bledsoe Creek State Park is located at 400 Ziegler’s Fort Rd., in Gallatin, TN. There are 57 campsites with a reservation fee of $5 and a nightly fee of $20 to $25. There’s plenty to do: Boating around Old Hickory Lake, there’s 6 hiking trails, and great picnic spots.” Mammoth Cave and Land Between the Lakes are close by too!”
2. FOOTBALL!!
From Todd: “Fall means FOOTBALL! I’m a Bulldog fan myself, but I love the Titans, even Friday Night High School football is great here in Nashville! Nothing like a little tailgating and pigskin!”
3. BISCUITS, LOVELESS CAFE AND THE NATCHEZ TRACE
From Chaz: “Start your morning out at the Loveless Cafe and drive the Natchez Trace to see beautiful fall color!” The Natchez Trace is a 444 mile historic route from Natchez, MS to Nashville. One of the best places to see great color is “The Old Trace Drive” at milepost 375.8 or the Metal Ford (382.8) or Swan View Overlook at milepost 392.5)
4. Wienie Roast w/Marshmallows
From Todd: “This is one of the easiest and best things you can do in the fall with your family. Put away the cell phones and TV, and just chill around the fire. Great time to connect with your family and who doesn’t like a s’more????”
5. FALL HOME PROJECTS AND YARDWORK
From Chaz: “It’s not too late to aerate and overseed your lawn. You can still do it through the end of the month. It’s also a good time to clean out your beds, change the mulch, and add pansies.
Also, it’s always fun to add a little pumpkin patch or fall harvest display with cornstalks, pumpkins, haybales and scarecrows. The kids love to bring the farm to the suburbs!”
From Todd: “Honeysuckle Hill Farm is located at 1765 Martin’s Chapel Church Rd., in Springfield, TN. It is $13.95 + tax or $8.00 (Tuesday thru Thursday) Children 2 and under are free. There is so much to do! Pig races, corn mazes, you name it. Perfect place to take your family and enjoy a cool fall day!”
Happy Fall Y’all!!
